Crushing/Stabilization of Lead Contaminated Demolition Debris
Philadelphia, PA
Project Value: $975,000
Enviro-Air was contracted to demolish a 400,000 square foot plant in Northeast Philadelphia.
The demolition debris was tested and found to be hazardous for lead. Enviro-Air was hired to sort the debris (wood, metal, concrete/brick) and then crush the concrete and brick.
After crushing, the 2 inch minus product was treated in a pug mill and rendered non hazardous. Enviro-Air utilized a large impact crusher, which was set up to feed directly into a portable pug mill. Enviro-Air crushed and treated over 6,000 tons of brick and concrete and sorted over 10,000 cubic yards of wood, metal and debris prior to loading into the crusher. Enviro-Air utilized a magnesium oxide/sodium phosphate blend to treat the material to non detect TCLP lead levels.
Enviro-Air personnel met with the PADEP and the City of Philadelphia to obtain approval for the onsite treatment of the hazardous material, the entire project was complete in 8 weeks.
