In July of 2002 Enviro-Air was contracted to remediate a coal tar site in Northern New Jersey. The project consisted of excavating an entire property (~100' X 70') to a depth of 4'. What complicated this project was the fact that a new building, that was occupied, was recently constructed on the property. The property was surrounded on two sides by residential properties. Groundwater was at various depths on the property, but the average was 3 feet. Two sides of the building required the use of a mini-excavator due to the fact that the building was only five feet from the property line. Enviro-Air had to disconnect air conditioning units, replace water lines (part of the original bid requirements), construct a swale, tie into an existing drainpipe from the swale and work with the property owner to keep his building accessible and operational, during the remediation activities. Over 600 tons of contaminated soil were excavated and loaded out onto dump trailers. After the material was excavated, a geotextile liner was put down in the excavation and the areas were backfilled with a certified, clean fill. Enviro-Air had to tie into existing storm drains and install a drainage swale. The entire site was graded and topsoil was put down. The project was completed in two weeks.
